“Have you tried trying?”
I heard this saying from a fellow dad this week. He said it’s a common phrase in his household, especially when his kids give up before even starting something new or finding something they lost.
That got me thinking about how I treat “trying” in my own life, and how this phrase is a fundamental truth that has changed my life:
Effort Is A Strategy.
I think the word “trying” is to kids as “doing” is to adults. When starting something new, or going from good to great in an area of your life, nothing beats doing. High reps put you leaps and bounds beyond your peers, and can launch you beyond your expectations.
When effort is your strategy, you can also get knocked down and it’s no big deal – because you get up again (cue Chumbawumba).
That ability to rebound after a knockdown is crucial to staying on track for big goals.
Here’s one tactical way to increase your effort: put it on your calendar. Book the time to increase effort in the parts of your life you want to see real change.
Where are you going to double down on effort this week?
