90’s reference inbound…

At the risk of dating myself, I’ll just say it: I was a huge fan of MadTV back in the day.

So many funny people were on that show… Bobby Lee, Jordan Peele, Frank Caliendo, Artie Lange, Keegan-Michael Key, Nicole Sullivan, (ok I’ll stop).

It was “SNL for cool people”. Edgy, scrappy, funny.

One of the bits that stuck with me was the dating service titled “Lowered Expectations”. The title explains the concept, but you can still enjoy it for yourself:

Maybe that series planted a seed in my heart, but as an adult I tend to live by that mantra, and I can confirm that lowering your expectations is a path to happiness.

It’s not the only path, but it is a tried-and-true path, guaranteed.

If you can find joy in the simple pleasures of life, it curbs the appetite for more-more-more. It keeps you protected from “Keeping up with the Joneses” disease. It frees you to enjoy what you have.

I’ll leave you with a quote from The Wizard Of Oz:

“‘I shall take a heart,’ returned the Tin Woodman, ‘for brains do not make one happy, and happiness is the best thing in the world.’”

Enjoy the little things!

Onward and upward,
