Investing & The Home Run Derby

This Midweek Money Minute includes Warren Buffet, baseball, Ted Williams, and a total reframe of lost opportunities

We’re making contact on Wednesdays again 🔥 with the Midweek Money Minute. It’s a one-minute read on one topic each Wednesday. (Questions, comments, ideas? Hit reply!)

“There’s no ‘called strikes’ when investing.”

This is my favorite Warren Buffet quote.

When talking about Ted Williams’ success as a batter, Buffet talks about how the all-time On Base Percentage leader (still the king 6 decades later!) links his success to his ability to pick a good pitch.

Give it a quick watch 👇️

(Talk about a couple of walking legends…)

Warren Buffet talks about how successful investing is all about picking the right pitch. You can only win or lose when you take a swing.

In that way, investing is like the Home Run Derby.

During the MLB All Star Game celebrations every summer, the top sluggers compete for the Home Run Derby crown. It’s glorified batting practice – they get to pick their pitcher, who delivers exactly what pitches they like crushing into Kingdom Come.

They can take as many pitches as they want. They only score points (or get outs) when they take a swing.

This is how investing is… the next time you feel like you missed a great opportunity, just think of it as a passed pitch. Guess what – now you know what a good pitch looks like, and when you see the next one, take a fat swing and crush it.

Onward and upward,
