10 Things + Rollercoaster Investing
Worst Financial Mistakes, Forever Renters, Good Spending Habits, and the Best Veggies
Imagine if you got on a roller coaster ride for the first time and had no idea of the thrilling sequence of swift ascents, breath-taking drops, and jerky turns that both terrify and exhilarate its riders. You would likely be curing your friend who talked you into it in the first place.
Investing in individual stocks is a bit of a roller coaster ride, and if you were not aware of its ups and downs, you’d likely pull out all your money and stash it under the mattress instead.
Two companies that I hold, Hims & Hers and Robinhood, both recently reported blow-out earnings – proof they are growing fast and making money. Yet both were down 5% on Friday. Both stocks are heavily traded (and heavily shorted) with big moves up and down each week. This is part of the ride when holding relatively new companies in the stock market.
The key is to understand what to expect on the ride and what you will do when it happens. The earnings report verified that these are quality growth companies I want to own, and the drops in stock prices allowed me to buy more shares at a better price.

PS – Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! Mothers play the most important and undervalued role in humanity. I lost my mother to cancer in 2018 and would give anything to spend another day with her. Be sure to make time for your mother and call her as often as possible.
